In 2002, Janne Rättyä made his debut in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie as part of the Debut Series of DeutschlandRadio Berlin – the first classical accordion recital in the history of that venue. He has since presented his instrument in major concert halls and at renowned festivals worldwide, including the Kyoto International Music Festival, Toppan Hall and Musashino Hall in Tokyo, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, New York’s Symphony Space, the Pacific Rim Festival (UCLA), the Festival van Vlaanderen, the Ultraschall Festival Berlin, Konserthuset Stockholm, Harpa in Reykjavík, the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, the Parco della Musica in Rome, Salzburger Aspekte and Wien Modern.

As a soloist, he has performed with numerous Finnish and international orchestras, including the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Lapland and the Tapiola Sinfonietta, under conductors such as Martyn Brabbins and Sakari Oramo. He has also collaborated with the Duisburg and Düsseldorf symphony orchestras, as well as the Stockholm-based chamber orchestra O/Modernt, on several opera projects.

He maintains particularly close artistic relationships with composers such as Aldo Clementi, Klaus Lang, Dieter Schnebel, Kalevi Aho, Iris ter Schiphorst and Terry Riley, and has premiered numerous works, including two double concertos by Uljas Pulkkis, both first performed with the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra: “Crystallizations” for violin and accordion, with Pekka Kuusisto, and “Evolution” for piano and accordion, with Henri Sigfridsson.

Immediately after completing his studies at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland) with Prof. Matti Rantanen and at the Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen (Germany) with Prof. Mie Miki, Rättyä taught at both institutions before being appointed Professor of Accordion at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in 2003. In 2019, the Sibelius Academy awarded him the title of Adjunct Professor.

Janne Rättyä records for the VMS Musical Treasures, Alba and Ondine labels. His recordings have received multiple awards, including “CD of the Year 2014” from the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE.
